5 Tips to Stay Stress-Free During the Holidays

Holiday party goers with Santa hats and confetti

While spending time with family and getting some time off work or school can be great, we all know the holidays can be a rough time for some of us. Between the ugly sweater parties, finding the perfect gifts (and the money to pay for them), and the hordes of overly excited children eagerly awaiting Santa’s arrival, this time of year is stressful. Here are a few tips to help you stay calm, cool, and collected this holiday season.

1. Start Early

Do not wait until December 1st to start shopping…Take advantage of sales throughout the year, anytime you see a gift for someone on your list and have a little extra cash. This prevents having to rush around in the retail madness come November-December.

2. Online Shopping

Avoid the lines and utilize technology. This is a HUGE time-saver. No driving around store-to-store, standing in lines for hours, or dealing with crazed crowds. You can even save money by using apps like Ebates when shopping online!

3. Shop Local

If online is not your thing, or you are looking for ways to give back to your local community, try your local Mom-and-Pop shops! The lines will not be as long as the chain stores, you will find more unique gifts, and it will feel good knowing that you are helping support a local family.

4. Keep It Simple

There is no need to go overboard with gift giving, cooking, or decorating. Seriously. Keep it simple. One gift per person is perfectly acceptable. After all, it is a free gift chosen special just for them. If you are hosting a meal at your home, don’t hesitate to turn it into a potluck and ask everyone to bring a food or drink item. The less work you give yourself to do the less stressed you will be.

5. Pamper Yourself

In all the spoiling of others, don’t forget about yourself! Make time for yourself each day to relax or have fun. Take a hot bath with some aromatherapy bath salts, listen to your favorite music, do yoga, or whatever it is you want to do that’s just for you. You are worthy of your own time, love, and attention.

Happy Holidays!
